6th Form Courses

The following courses are available for the academic year 2025-2026, these are updated annually to make sure the best offer for our students is available.

Level 3 Academic

A levels are all linear. This means that all exams are taken at the end of Year 13. Coursework for the majority of linear A levels has been removed, with the exception of a small number of subjects such as History, Geography and English Literature.

For students who are predicted to achieve, or who have achieved 5 grades at 7 and above at GCSE, including English and Maths at no less than grade 6, they have the option to choose four Level 3 subjects, predominantly made up of academic A Levels.

For students who are predicted to achieve, or who have achieved 5 grades at 4 and above at GCSE, including English and Maths, it is expected they will choose three Level 3 subjects from the academic and/or vocational options, as long as they meet the criteria for individual subjects. Often the subject specific requirements will detail specific grades in that subject (or a comparable one) which must also be achieved.

A Level Courses

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • English Literature
  • French
  • Geography
  • German
  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Media Studies
  • Physics
  • Religious Studies
  • Extended Project Qualification

Level 3 Vocational

BTECs, Cambridge Technical and other Applied General Qualifications include both an examined element and (normally) a controlled assessment or coursework unit that is marked internally and sent to the exam board for moderation.

BTECs all have a minimum of 40% internally assessed coursework. For BTEC subjects worth two or more A-levels (called Diplomas or Extended Diplomas), the ratio of internally marked coursework is higher than for BTECs worth 1 A-level (known as Extended Certificates). The “scenarios” for the controlled assessments in these subjects are normally provided somewhere between a week to three weeks in advance of the controlled assessment.

Both Sport and Health and Social Care offer Diploma options which are double awards (equivalent of two subjects). All other subjects on offer in this category are the equivalent of one A Level.

For students who are predicted to achieve, or who have achieved a minimum of 4 grades at 4 or above at GCSE, it is acceptable to choose three BTEC subjects at Level 3.

Vocational Courses

  • Art & Design (Extended Certificate)
  • Business Studies (Extended Certificate)
  • Childcare (Extended Certificate)
  • Criminology Diploma
  • Dance (Extended Certificate)
  • Health & Social Care (Extended Certificate)
  • Health & Social Diploma*
  • Information Technology (Extended Certificate)
  • Music
  • Applied Psychology
  • Applied Science (Extended Certificate)
  • Sport (Extended Certificate)
  • Sport National Diploma*

 *Equivalent to two A Levels

Level 2 Courses

If a student has not achieved a grade 4 or above in English Language and/or Mathematics, they must study these courses post-16 - a decision made by the government in the wake of the Raising Participation Age to 18 review.

This means they will attend a re-sit class for English and/or Maths and be entered to take their exams again in either November or June. Where a student attains below a Grade 3 in Maths, they will likely be entered to complete functional skills.

These are the only Level 2 qualifications offered and students will be expected to study for these resits in addition to the three Level 3 qualifications they choose. Some resit lessons may be scheduled during an after school lesson slot (from 3.15 to 4.15 pm) and engagement with the resit classes is a condition of enrolment.
