Kent Catholic School Partnership Statement of Curriculum Intent and EBACC Statement

"I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full"

John 10: Chapter 10. V 10.

Inspired by Jesus Christ’s example and the Gospel values of love, joy and compassion, we nurture and develop the whole child so that each unique individual grows constantly in confidence, and has the knowledge, skills and self-esteem to achieve their true potential.

All children will access a rich, ambitious, challenging curriculum; one that is broad, balanced and relevant, fostering curiosity, creativity and a life-long love of learning. It will prepare them well for each stage of education, employment or training and enable them, as educated citizens, to contribute to creating a better world.

Kent Catholic School Partnership - English Baccalaureate’ (EBACC) Statement

All KCSP Secondary Academies are committed to ensuring that as many pupils as possible study the EBACC suite of qualifications. To this end, we ensure that:

  • All pupils have full access to EBACC options when making GCSE choices. Every pupil in a KCSP Secondary Academy will be able to study EBACC options.
  • All pupils whose prior attainment and progress at KS3 suggest that they may ‘achieve’ the EBACC suite of qualifications at GCSE Grade 5 or above are strongly encouraged to choose these options. This is communicated to pupils in assemblies, 1:1 interviews and via communication with their parents/carers; e.g., all Open Days or Parent/Carer Evenings will include promotion of the EBACC suite as a positive Catholic curriculum option
  • All pupils are informed of the benefits of studying the EBACC suite of subjects.
  • All pupils are given access to high-quality teaching in EBACC subjects in Key Stage 3.

Given the differences in prior attainment across the academies and the varying interests and needs of the children, EBACC entries will vary between academies and from year-to-year. However, our positive promotion of EBACC subjects will see an upward trajectory in entries over time.

Ursuline College Statement of Curriculum Intent

Our Purpose

As an Ursuline Catholic community inspired by Serviam,  “I will serve”, and shaped by respect, love, and trust, we aim for academic and personal excellence in the belief that getting better never stops.

Our curriculum is the whole experience of school life: everything we do to help students grow into compassionate, confident, and responsible young people. Grounded in our Catholic ethos, it promotes a love of learning and inspires every student to become the best version of themselves.

Our Aims

Our curriculum:

  1. Expresses our Ursuline ethos, so that the spirit of Serviam infuses all learning and relationships.
  2. Challenges and inspires every learner to aim high, persevere, and know that getting better never stops.
  3. Builds strong knowledge and skills in literacy, numeracy, oracy, and digital fluency to enable powerful, independent learning.
  4. Develops character and personal growth, nurturing teamwork, communication, resilience, and integrity.
  5. Offers rich, memorable experiences that deepen curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
  6. Prepares students for life beyond school, supporting informed choices about future learning, careers, and service to others.
  7. Promotes wellbeing and safety, caring for physical, mental, moral, and spiritual development.
  8. Expands cultural and global understanding, helping students engage thoughtfully and compassionately with the world.

Our Destination

Every Ursuline student leaves us as a capable, compassionate, and hopeful young person, ready to serve others, contribute confidently to society, and continue growing in the lifelong belief that getting better never stops.

Right to Withdraw from RE and RSE

Parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education (RE) and/or from the sex education elements of the Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) curriculum.

Parents and carers do not have the right to withdraw their child from Health Education, or any content that forms part of the National Curriculum for Science.

If you would like to discuss this further, or wish to make a formal request to withdraw your child from all or part of RE and/or Sex Education, please contact your child’s Head of House in writing via email. The school will then arrange a meeting to discuss your request and to ensure you are fully informed about the content and purpose of the curriculum and to agree alternative arrangements for the provision of your child whilst these lessons are taking place.
